For a 61 year old male or female life insurance coverage, the focus shifts to permanent life insurance to Whole Life or Universal Life for estate planning, though term life insurance serves well for shorter time period needs and more economical larger coverage amounts to replace lost income before retirement, cover debts or a mortgage.

Please refer here for a full range of product and carrier recommendations for those in their 60’s.  See here for Whole Life final expense quotes ages 60 to 69.  Guaranteed Universal Life (GUL) is much less expensive than Whole Life and locks in coverage at a fixed rate to a designated age.  10, 15 and 20 year term quotes and Guaranteed UL quotes are provided below.  A woman tends to live longer than a man so their rates are less.

Term

Lowest price is a key factor to choosing a term life product.  However, the quality feature to term is the carrier’s conversion to permanent options.  If competing premiums are close, the best conversion rules should help decide. Ask about the product’s age limit of term conversion and current conversion to permanent products. Pacific Life is the overall best for conversion, though other carriers should be evaluated that tailor to individual goals. American National has a chronic and critical illness rider to their term insurance that merits consideration. Below gives the price range for best health, preferred best to average health, standard, for non tobacco users.
